International Yoga Day 2026 was celebrated with great enthusiasm, positivity, and inclusivity at Bandhu Purulia on 20th June 2026. Although International Yoga Day is observed globally on 21st June, this year it fell on a Sunday. To ensure maximum participation from our students, Bandhu Purulia organized the celebration one day earlier, creating a memorable and meaningful experience for every child.
The programme brought together 53 enthusiastic students, including 33 students from Bandhu Purulia Public School and 20 students from Bandhu Purulia Special School. The event beautifully reflected our commitment to inclusive education, where children with and without disabilities learn, grow, and celebrate together in an environment of equality, respect, and mutual support.
Yoga for Every Child: Building a Healthy and Inclusive Future
At Bandhu Purulia, we strongly believe that yoga is for everyone. Yoga is not limited by age, ability, or background. It is a powerful practice that improves physical health, emotional well-being, concentration, confidence, and inner peace. Through our International Yoga Day celebration, we encouraged every student to experience the benefits of yoga regardless of their individual abilities.
The celebration was conducted in two interactive sessions, allowing students to actively participate in a variety of yoga exercises, stretching techniques, breathing practices, and traditional yoga asanas. The programme began with a group yoga session, where students performed synchronized movements that promoted teamwork, discipline, mindfulness, and harmony.
Several students also confidently presented individual yoga postures, demonstrating flexibility, balance, determination, and self-confidence. Their dedication and enthusiasm inspired everyone present and highlighted the importance of regular yoga practice in daily life.
Inclusive Education in Action
Bandhu Purulia has always believed that true education goes beyond classrooms and textbooks. Our mission is to build an inclusive society where every child receives equal opportunities to learn, participate, and succeed.
The International Yoga Day programme became a beautiful example of inclusive education in practice. Students from our public school and special school participated together without barriers, learning from one another while celebrating health, friendship, and unity.
For children with disabilities, yoga offers numerous physical and emotional benefits, including:
- Improved balance and body coordination
- Better flexibility and muscle strength
- Enhanced concentration and attention
- Reduced stress and anxiety
- Greater self-confidence and emotional regulation
- Increased independence in daily activities
These benefits make yoga an important part of holistic child development, especially within an inclusive educational environment.
Why Yoga Matters for Children
In today’s fast-changing world, children often face academic pressure, excessive screen time, and reduced physical activity. Regular yoga practice helps children develop healthy habits that support lifelong well-being.
Some of the key benefits of yoga for children include:
- Strengthening physical fitness and posture
- Improving memory, focus, and concentration
- Encouraging emotional resilience
- Promoting relaxation and mental wellness
- Building confidence and self-discipline
- Supporting social inclusion and teamwork
By introducing yoga at an early age, we help children become healthier, happier, and more mindful individuals who are prepared to face future challenges with confidence.
A Celebration Filled with Joy and Inspiration
Throughout the programme, students actively participated with smiling faces, positive energy, and remarkable enthusiasm. Teachers guided the yoga sessions while encouraging students to perform each posture safely and confidently. The atmosphere was filled with happiness, cooperation, and mutual encouragement.
The accompanying slideshow video captures these beautiful moments, showcasing students performing various yoga asanas, group activities, and individual demonstrations. The video reflects the spirit of togetherness that defines Bandhu Purulia and our commitment to creating opportunities where every child can shine.
Our Commitment to Health and Inclusive Education
At Bandhu Purulia, we continue to organize educational, cultural, sports, awareness, and wellness programmes that support the overall development of children with and without disabilities. Our vision is to create an inclusive society where diversity is celebrated and every child receives equal opportunities to learn, participate, and achieve their dreams.
As the Bhagavad Gita beautifully states:
“Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.”
This timeless message reminds us that yoga is much more than physical exercise—it is a path towards self-awareness, compassion, discipline, and inner peace.
We sincerely thank our dedicated teachers, supportive parents, volunteers, and enthusiastic students who made the International Yoga Day 2026 celebration at Bandhu Purulia a great success.
Together, we will continue promoting inclusive education, disability inclusion, child development, health, wellness, and yoga for all, building a stronger, healthier, and more compassionate community.
